Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan Calls for Reinstatement of Minister for Women and Gender Equality
Giving a VoiceRegina, SK – March 20 – Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan (SASS) is deeply concerned by the federal government’s decision to eliminate the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth (WAGE). This move undermines decades of progress in advancing gender equity and addressing gender-based violence in Canada.
SASS is a provincial organization dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual violence, strengthening community services, and advocating for policies that promote safety and equality. For over seven years, we have been grateful for WAGE’s continued investment in our work, which has been instrumental in expanding services and increasing awareness of sexual violence prevention. However, eliminating this ministerial position weakens the government’s ability to address these critical issues effectively.
Gender equality cannot be an afterthought—it requires dedicated leadership, accountability, and sustained investment. We urge the Prime Minister to reconsider this decision and reinstate a dedicated Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth to ensure these vital issues remain a national priority.
In solidarity,
Kerrie Isaac
Executive Director, Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan
